Liu Wei Di Huang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) is one of the most celebrated formulas in all of TCM, first appearing in the Xiao Er Yao Zheng Zhi Jue (Key to Pediatric Diagnosis and Treatment) by Qian Yi of the Song dynasty. It is the foundational formula for tonifying Kidney and Liver yin deficiency, built on three tonifying herbs - Shu Di Huang, Shan Zhu Yu, and Shan Yao - balanced by three draining herbs - Ze Xie, Fu Ling, and Mu Dan Pi - to tonify without causing stagnation.
