Ren Shen Bai Du San (Ginseng Powder to Overcome Pathogenic Influences) is a classical formula from the He Ji Ju Fang. It releases the exterior and dispels wind-cold-damp while simultaneously augmenting the qi with Ren Shen (ginseng) - a strategy sometimes called “driving out the thief while supporting the righteous.” This approach is indicated when an exterior condition occurs in a patient with underlying qi deficiency, where straightforward diaphoresis alone would further deplete the already weakened upright qi. It is also the source formula for the concept of “reverse flow” treatment in some damp-heat dysentery patterns. Available from TCM Zone in a convenient 100-capsule concentrated format.
