  • Stops bleeding: used for many types of bleeding because, while it is an astringent, it also reduces stasis. Most often used for bleeding associated with heat in the Lungs or Stomach with vomiting or coughing of blood. Also, for chronic bleeding when combined with other appropriate substances.

This herb is prepared by dry-frying the charred nodes until they turn black on the outside and dark yellow inside, then spraying them with a mixture of wine and water to cool. This method enhances its ability to stop bleeding but reduces its capacity to disperse stasis. The herb's nature shifts from neutral to slightly warm, making it more suitable for treating bleeding in patients with yang deficiency.
