A practitioner-grade TCM soak-compress combining hai tong pi tang and wu jia pi tang. The best general formula of the second-stage compress group, suited to post-trauma soft tissue damage when both pain and blood stasis are present. Moves blood, dispels stasis, relieves pain, and addresses wind-damp. Herb formula sewn in cloth pouch; steam or soak in hot water before applying. For external use only.
Spring Wind's herbal soak-compresses are formulas ground to a coarse powder and sewn into reusable cloth pouches. They are designed to be steamed or soaked in hot water and applied directly to the injured area, allowing medicinal heat and the penetrating properties of the herbs to work together to promote healing.
Ma's Post-Trauma Soak-Compress #8 is a practitioner-developed modification that combines the classical formulas hai tong pi tang (Erythrina Bark Decoction) and wu jia pi tang (Acanthopanax Bark Decoction). Both source formulas are rooted in the treatment of traumatic injury and wind-damp conditions, and their combination produces a broad-spectrum formula suited to the general management of post-trauma soft tissue damage.
Clinical Applications
This formula is best suited to second-stage sinew damage - the period following the resolution of acute inflammation when heat and redness have subsided but pain, stiffness, and residual swelling persist. As the best all-around formula of the second-stage soak-compress group, it is the preferred choice when the practitioner seeks a single general formula. It is appropriate when pain and blood stasis are both present and neither predominates strongly over the other. It may also support recovery following cast removal.
TCM Actions
Moves blood and dispels stasis, relaxes sinew and relieves pain, dispels wind and damp, reduces swelling and promotes healing of the soft tissues.
Application
Steam or soak the pouched herb formula in hot water and apply to the affected area while warm. Maintain heat with a heating pad or towel wrap. Reuse the same pouch for multiple treatments. Do not apply to broken or abraded skin.
