Augments the qi, dispels wind, strengthens the Spleen, promotes urination, and reduces edema.
Fang Ji Huang Qi Tang (Stephania and Astragalus Decoction) is a traditional Chinese medicine formula from the Jin Gui Yao Lue by Zhang Zhong-jing, available in concentrated granule form. It is formulated to treat wind-water and wind-dampness syndromes marked by surface deficiency and dampness accumulation, manifesting as generalized edema, sweating, sensitivity to wind, and a floating pulse.
This formula integrates Fang Ji's exterior-releasing and wind-expelling effects with Huang Qi's qi-tonifying and Spleen-strengthening properties, enabling it to target both underlying qi deficiency and the buildup of pathological fluid concurrently. It is a primary TCM formula for edema caused by defensive qi deficiency.
