Gui Pi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction) is a classical TCM formula first appearing in the Ji Sheng Fang (Formulas to Aid the Living) and later expanded by Xue Ji in the Zheng Ti Lei Yao. It is one of the most widely used formulas in the Heart and Spleen tonic category. By simultaneously strengthening the Spleen’s ability to generate qi and blood and nourishing the Heart to calm the spirit, it addresses the classic pattern of Heart-Spleen deficiency presenting with fatigue, poor memory, palpitations, disturbed sleep, and a tendency to worry. Properties: This herbal formula may be used for any condition due to blood deficiency, like side effects of chemotherapy and radiation; heavy blood loss. May also be used for conditions of bruising, as well as depression.
Actions: Strengthens Spleen; tonifies Heart; nourishes Blood; calms the Heart’s spirit (Shen).
Pattern: Palpitation, forgetfulness, insomnia, lack of appetite and underweight, pale complexion, fright and night sweating, irregular menses, heavy vaginal bleeding, vaginal discharge, pale and large volume of menses, low grade fever due to blood defecient.
Chinese Symptomology: Insomnia, interrupted sleep, drowsiness, heart palpitations; tired, achy or painful limbs, general fatigue, anemia, menstrual disharmony; irregular perspiration, dizziness, headache, tinnitus, poor vision, appetite disorders, nausea and bowel problems, memory loss, and overthinking.
