Our potent, steam distilled Valerian grows wild in the mountains of Guizhou Province, China. Its aroma is strong, sharp, sweet and herbaceous all at the same time. Inhaling the aroma has an immediate hypnotic, tranquilizing effect. It is soothing, sedating and deeply relaxing for both mind and body. 

Steam distilled Valerian Root 

Valerian essential oil is tranquilizing for a disturbed spirit. In this regard, it may be used to treat insomnia, emotional distress, anxiety and excessive worrying.

Valerian is powerfully analgesic and anti-spasmodic. It is therefore, equally effective to ease physical stresses, especially those associated with Liver Qi Stagnation which may manifest as muscle tightness, spasms, stomach and intestinal cramps, menstrual cramping and pre-menstrual syndrome.

For insomnia, Xie Cao is quite effective on its own, whether inhaled directly or diffused in the sleeping room. It may also be combined with other essential oils such as Wu Wei Zi (Schizandra), Suan Zao Ren (Zizypus) or Bai Zi Ren (Biota Seed).

To reduce pain, muscle aches and spasms Xie Cao may be applied topically over the affected area, either as a single oil or combined with other essential oils such as Chuan Xiong (Ligusicum wallichii), Gan Cao (Licorice), or Xun Yi Cao (Lavender).
