Tri-color Application Soft Plaster #5

Spring Wind's soft plasters are traditional Chinese herbal formulas prepared in an organic sesame oil and beeswax base. They are spread onto gauze and applied directly to the affected area. Do not apply to broken skin.

Tri-color Application Soft Plaster #5 is a warming formula designed for the later stages of soft tissue injury. Its name reflects the multi-herb composition of the original classical formula, and its warming, penetrating action makes it well suited to injuries in which heat is no longer present but cold and damp have become the dominant pathological factors.

Clinical Applications

This formula is indicated for second and third-stage sinew damage that presents as cold-damp bi - characterized by pain and stiffness that worsen in cold or damp conditions, heaviness or numbness in the affected area, and the absence of local heat or redness. It is appropriate for ligament or tendon tears in the post-inflammatory phase, chronic joint and muscle stiffness, and injuries that are one to several weeks old. Because this is a warming formula, the application of a heat lamp or moxibustion directly over the plaster can enhance its therapeutic effect.

TCM Actions

Warms the channels and dispels cold, resolves damp, moves blood and relieves pain, relaxes sinew, benefits second and third-stage cold-damp bi patterns.

Application

Warm the plaster slightly to soften. Spread onto gauze and apply to the affected area. Secure with bandaging as needed. For enhanced effect, apply gentle heat via heat lamp or moxibustion over the plaster. Change daily or as directed by the practitioner. Soft plasters will stain fabric. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Do not apply to broken skin.
