Frigid Extremities Decoction: rescues devastated Yang, warms the Middle Burner, and stops diarrhea. For use under practitioner supervision only.

Si Ni Tang (Frigid Extremities Decoction) is an ancient and powerful classical formula for rescuing devastated Yang and warming the Middle Burner. First described in the Shang Han Lun by Zhang Zhong-jing, this 3-herb formula addresses the critical presentation of Yang collapse with cold inversion, characterized by extremely cold limbs, aversion to cold, exhaustion, and diarrhea. This formula contains prepared Zhi Fu Zi (processed Aconite) and must be used under the supervision of a licensed practitioner.

  • Zhi Fu Zi (processed Aconite root) rescues depleted Yang and warms the Kidney and Heart; combined with Gan Jiang (Dried ginger) to warm the Middle Jiao and stop diarrhea
  • Zhi Gan Cao moderates the harsh properties of the other herbs and harmonizes the formula
  • Traditionally used in cold inversion patterns: extremely cold extremities, aversion to cold, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea with undigested food, and abdominal cold and pain
  • Contraindicated in true Heat with false Cold presentations; do not use where cold extremities are accompanied by thirst for cool beverages, dark urine, and a red tongue with yellow coat

For use under the supervision of a licensed TCM practitioner only. ActiveHerb Si Ni Tang Granules are prepared as a 5:1 whole-formula co-extract. This formula is reserved for serious Yang deficiency and collapse patterns requiring experienced clinical judgment.
