Ping Wei San (Calm the Stomach Powder) is a classical TCM formula from the He Ji Ju Fang (Formulary of the Pharmacy Service for Benefiting the People). It is the foundational formula in the category of prescriptions that dry dampness, move qi, and harmonize the Stomach. The chief herb Cang Zhu (atractylodes rhizome) powerfully dries dampness and strengthens the Spleen’s transporting function; Hou Po (magnolia bark) promotes the movement of qi and reduces distension; Chen Pi (aged tangerine peel) harmonizes the Stomach and moves qi; and Zhi Gan Cao and Sheng Jiang harmonize the formula and warm the middle burner.
