Stops sweating due to Deficiency

  • Sweating due to Qi Deficiency
  • Night sweats due to Yin Deficiency

Reduces low-grade fevers

  • Deficient Yin fevers

Now commonly used to treat night sweats and heat due to deficiency, Oryzae glutinosae Radix (nuo dao gen xu) had few recorded traditional uses before its inclusion in Ye Gui's Renewed Materia Medica, which describes it as follows: "Sweet, acrid, and neutral without toxicity, it enters the three channels of the Liver, Lungs, and Kidney. Tonifies the qi, transforms phlegm, enriches the yin of the Stomach, expels wind-dampness. Treats cold in the genitals, quiets the fetus in pregnancy, harmonizes the blood, remedies frostbite and wounds from metal." --excerpted from Bensky: Chinese Herbal Medicine Materia Medica, 2nd ed.

Dosage

Generally, the recommended daily dosage for an adult is 9 grams, but any final decision should be made based on a trained healthcare practitioner's assessment.

Treasure of the East recommends splitting the dosage into two or three servings per day.  If taken twice a day, each serving size is 5 grams.  If taken three times a day, each serving should be 3 grams. Each measuring spoon included with Treasure of the East granules holds 1.5g.

Weight and age also affect dosage, and you can use the following table to identify the suggested dosage for patients based on age and weight:
