Jasminum sambac is a jasmine species indigenous to a small region in the eastern Himalayas, Bhutan, and adjacent India. It is widely cultivated, particularly throughout much of South Asia. The resilience of this small, water-loving evergreen shrub's flowers peaks at night, and they are harvested as buds at dawn to ensure maximum fragrance for essential oil extraction. These flowers, renowned for their exquisite scent, bloom nocturnally, reflecting their inherently Yin nature.

In traditional Chinese medicine, jasmine essential oil nourishes the water element and clears excessive fire. It is associated with the Kidney, Liver, and Heart channels.
