Double-cooling Soft Plaster #4

Spring Wind's soft plasters are traditional Chinese herbal formulas prepared in an organic sesame oil and beeswax base. They are spread onto gauze and applied directly to the affected area. Do not apply to broken skin.

Double-Cooling Soft Plaster #4 is thermally the coolest of the Spring Wind plaster line. Its primary clinical emphasis is clearing heat - making it the formula of choice when a trauma or bi pattern presents with clear heat signs at the surface: redness, warmth to the touch, and inflammation.

Clinical Applications

This formula treats sprains, strains, and contusions that are warm or hot to the touch and red in color. These are the characteristic features of first-stage acute injury or of bi patterns with a pronounced heat component. Double-Cooling Plaster #4 can be used as a stand-alone formula in clearly hot presentations or - one of its most practical applications - used in combination with other plasters to shift the overall thermal character of the treatment toward cool. It is frequently combined with Plasters #3, #5, or #6 to extend their heat-clearing range.

TCM Actions

Clears heat, reduces redness and warmth, relieves pain, moves blood and reduces swelling.

Application

Warm the plaster slightly to soften. Spread onto gauze and apply to the affected area. Secure with bandaging as needed. Change daily or as directed by the practitioner. Soft plasters will stain fabric. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Do not apply to broken skin.
