Tianma Shenmiao Wan
The design of Classical Pearls Balance Pearls is inspired by the renowned 18th-century formula Banxia Baizhu Tianma Tang, which traces its roots to the Yuan dynasty scholar-physician Li Dongyuan. Li emphasized that "headaches caused by phlegm should be treated with Banxia, while dizziness requires Tianma." This formula remains a popular choice for addressing these conditions today. Its key herb, Tianma (Gastrodia elata), is the tuber of a rare orchid, long prized in the folk medicine traditions of Southwest China. Modern pharmacology recognizes Tianma's compounds, including precursors to levodopa, as effective in treating spasmodic disorders. According to China's earliest herbal compendium, Shen Nong's Materia Medica (Shen Nong bencao jing), Tianma—referred to as Guiduyou ("Controller of Demons")—was also considered a potent anti-Gu herb with strong anti-inflammatory and life-extending properties. While Banxia Baizhu Tianma Tang can be applied to chronic conditions involving phlegm and internal wind, Balance Pearls is specifically designed to harness the formula's ancient neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory qualities.
