Chai Hu Gui Zhi Tang (Bupleurum and Cinnamon Twig Decoction) is a classical formula from Zhang Zhong-Jing’s Shang Han Lun (Treatise on Cold Damage Disorders). It is a combination of Xiao Chai Hu Tang and Gui Zhi Tang, designed to address disorders that span both the Lesser Yang (Shao Yang) and Greater Yang (Tai Yang) stages simultaneously. It harmonizes the interior and exterior, releases the muscle layer, and supports the body’s defensive qi in the process of resolving exterior pathogens.
