• Promotes the movement of qi, transforms dampness, and strengthens the Stomach: for dampness obstructing the middle burner as well as damp-warmth. Symptoms include a stifling sensation in the chest, fullness in the epigastrium, lack of appetite, and a very greasy tongue coating.

White cardamom is a warm, aromatic herb commonly used in Chinese medicine to soothe the stomach, ease nausea and vomiting, and reduce bloating. Bái Dòu Kòu is known for 'Transforming Dampness and Moving Qi'. It utilizes its aromatic, pungent qualities to penetrate and eliminate sluggish, heavy Dampness that burdens the digestive system. When Dampness affects the Spleen and Stomach, symptoms such as bloating, heaviness, poor appetite, and a thick, greasy tongue coating may occur. The herb's fragrant volatile oils stimulate the Spleen and enhance Qi circulation, reducing stagnation and water retention in the abdomen and chest. It is considered a key herb for treating issues in the upper and middle parts of the body, especially the chest and upper abdomen.

In addition, Bái Dòu Kòu (Warms the Middle Burner and stops vomiting) gently warms the stomach when affected by cold, calming rebellious Qi that tends to ascend instead of descend. It is particularly effective for nausea and vomiting caused by cold conditions in the stomach, such as vomiting clear fluids, nausea after eating cold foods, or morning sickness. Classical texts note that it can be used alone as a powder for acute vomiting or combined with herbs like Huò Xiāng and Bàn Xià.

Bái Dòu Kòu also 'Opens the stomach and enhances digestion'. This herb is known for its ability to stimulate appetite and aid in breaking down undigested food in the stomach. When someone loses interest in eating, feels full after a few bites, or experiences discomfort from food remaining in the stomach, its warm and fragrant qualities help restore normal digestive function. Modern scientific research confirms that it increases gastric secretions and promotes intestinal motility.

Dosage

Generally, the recommended daily dose for an adult is 9 grams, but any final decision should be made based on a trained healthcare practitioner's assessment.

Treasure of the East recommends splitting the dosage into two or three servings per day.  If taken twice a day, each serving size is 5 grams.  If taken three times a day, each serving should be 3 grams. Each measuring spoon included with Treasure of the East granules holds 1.5g.
